The use of new technologies has changed the way we live. Surely none of us would be able to live without the use of any kind of technology. This makes our daily lives easier, from the simplest tasks to the most complex ones. But this progress has also brought new risks.

Cybersecurity is no longer a technical challenge or something that only affects large organizations. In recent years, we have learned that it is something that affects us all. From a student who stores all their work in the cloud to a large corporation that manages sensitive data for hundreds of customers.

In this scenario, cybersecurity awareness and education have become essential tools for achieving a safer and more resilient society, and at the BeOneSec Chair in Cybersecurity and Cyberintelligence, we want to contribute to this goal.

Why is cybersecurity awareness so important?

You have probably heard phrases such as, “That doesn’t affect me, I don’t have anything important to protect,” many times. “My password has lots of numbers and letters, no one can guess it.”

Comments like these are much more common than we would like, especially because they reveal a major underlying problem: a lack of education and awareness about current cybersecurity risks.

Although threats such as phishing and ransomware may seem distant concepts, they can affect us all, from large corporations and public institutions to individual users.

At the BeOneSec Chair of Cybersecurity and Cyber Intelligence, we believe that the key to reducing these risks lies in speaking clearly and explaining the reasons behind cybersecurity. We want cybersecurity to be a topic that anyone can talk about responsibly, but without fear.

The role of outreach in cybersecurity.

At BeOneSec, we believe that cybersecurity is about people, not machines. That is why our approach focuses on people, removing cybersecurity from an exclusively technical context.

We want to reach experts, but we also want people who have never thought about cybersecurity to be able to talk about it in their everyday conversations.

We understand that cybersecurity awareness is much more than just informing people about the potential risks of clicking on an email or connecting to public Wi-Fi; it is a tool capable of creating a culture of prevention.

But to achieve this, it is essential to connect with the audience, and to do so, we will tell stories, using practical examples and language.

Our commitment: Build a culture of cybersecurity.

At the BeOneSec Chair of Cybersecurity and Cyber Intelligence, we want to democratize access to knowledge in cybersecurity, empowering society to make informed decisions that can reduce vulnerability to cyberattacks.

To this end, we will work on creating accessible, relevant, practical educational content aimed at specific audiences. We want everyone in society, from students to professionals, to be able to understand the information shared and apply it in their daily lives.

What are we trying to achieve?

Our goal is clear: to teach, raise awareness, and listen in order to improve. Thanks to this, we will be able to create a culture of cyber tranquility in society at large.

We want to be a leader in cybersecurity education and outreach, making the term less mysterious and more of a clear and accessible priority for everyone.
