On March 10, the Higher School of Computer Engineering of the University of Seville hosted the presentation of the BeOneSec Chair of Cybersecurity and Cyberintelligence.

This Chair was created with the objective of bringing practical knowledge in cybersecurity to students and researchers, so this day brought together experts in cybersecurity, teachers and interested students.

An opening marked by collaboration.

The day began with the inauguration by the director of ETSII María del Carmen Romero, who highlighted the importance of collaboration between public universities and private companies. He showed the importance of this type of collaboration to allow students to acquire up-to-date knowledge and the possibility of working in real environments.

As he said, private companies cannot be isolated from the academic environment and vice versa. Connecting students with active experts is the best tool to provide value to the sector.

Cyberintelligence through case studies.

One of the most impactful moments of the day came with the presentation by Fernando Ramos, CEO of BeOneSec, when he spoke about the role of intelligence in security from ancient Egypt to the present day.

And since there is no better way to see its importance than through real cases, he shared some of the cases that BeOneSec has worked on.

Among them, he explained how in one of the cases the human factor was used to carry out a physical intrusion on a company and thus evaluate its global security. A team of experts managed to access critical areas of the building without arousing suspicion, and most importantly, leaving undetected.

And the fact is that the risk is not only digital. Intelligence goes beyond cyberattacks and requires a holistic view of security.

This and other cases made the students show their amazement when they saw the importance of having a good cybersecurity awareness in all areas of their lives.

Opportunities for the future

To close the day, the director of the BeOneSec Cybersecurity and Cyberintelligence Chair, Rafael Estepa, presented the initiatives that will take place through the Chair throughout the 2024/2025 academic year.

This collaboration seeks to consolidate a space where public universities and private companies work hand in hand, preparing new generations to face the challenges that cybersecurity will present.

This encouraged students to take part in these initiatives, highlighting the value that these experiences can bring to their professional careers.

The day closed with an atmosphere of enthusiasm and some questions from students to learn more about the sector.
