At the BeOneSec Chair in Cybersecurity and Cyber Intelligence, we firmly believe that academic training must go hand in hand with real-world experience and direct engagement with the business landscape. With this in mind, last week BeOneSec colleagues delivered a cyber intelligence seminar for students enrolled in the Master’s in Cybersecurity at the University of Seville.

The aim of the session was clear: to share practical knowledge and an operational perspective on cyber intelligence with the students.

Contextualising Cyber Intelligence

The seminar was designed to help students gain a deeper understanding of the processes, methodologies and tools used daily to anticipate, detect and interpret the threats faced by organisations today.

The session began by setting the scene and outlining the added value this knowledge brings to the students’ professional profiles. It also explored the current state of cyber intelligence, its evolution and its critical role within wider cybersecurity strategies.

Through an engaging and interactive approach, students worked through the core elements of cyber intelligence, such as situational awareness, the cyber threat landscape, the difference between cybersecurity and information security, and the importance of the operational environment when assessing risks and threats.

Building on fundamental intelligence principles, the seminar also covered the DIKW Pyramid, the Pyramid of Pain, types of intelligence, analytical frameworks and structured analysis techniques, highlighting the importance of information quality and managing uncertainty.

Finally, best practices in OSINT, telemetry, coverage analysis, formats and rules, as well as good practices in intelligence production, were reviewed.

From Theory to Practice

To consolidate their knowledge, students tackled a practical exercise using real-life scenarios where they applied collection and analysis techniques in a simulated environment. This allowed them to identify indicators, structure information and assess source reliability.

Beyond strengthening their technical skills, this hands-on session sparked students’ curiosity, encouraging them to make the most of networking opportunities to ask questions and share ideas with BeOneSec professionals about career paths and operational challenges.

The relaxed and collaborative atmosphere turned this session into a genuine exchange of insights and practical advice, further cementing the strong link between the University of Seville and BeOneSec.

Bridging the Gap Between Education and Industry

With this seminar, the BeOneSec Chair in Cybersecurity and Cyber Intelligence reaffirms its commitment to bringing the operational reality of cyber intelligence closer to future professionals.

We understand that theory is essential for tackling real-world practice, but direct exposure to real scenarios makes all the difference when students enter the job market.

Through this Chair, we will continue to promote initiatives that connect academia, industry and talent.
